Meatpacking District Engagement Photos // Monalyn + John – San Diego Wedding Photographer | Los Angeles Wedding Photography | Wayne and Angela
When we do photo shoots, there’s something we like to do that we fondly call “poker face”. It’s what others might call “GQ”, “fierce”, or simply, “work it!” In any case, we realize from working with so many different couples that it’s not an easy thing to pull off! While some can’t hold a straight face to save their lives, others, like Monalyn and John, know how to rock a smokin’ “poker face”.
It had been a while since we’ve been to the Meatpacking District after moving to California. Surprisingly (and sadly), many of our favorite spots had disappeared and been replaced with new restaurants, condos, or simply a pile of rubble. Although it was bitter sweet parting with these places, we realized it was also a great opportunity to explore some fresh areas and find new corners around this grungy, urban setting. After a couple of quick shots around Highline Park (dodging crowds, of course), we weaved through the warehouse-laden streets of the Meatpacking District and took some sweet shots of our rock-star couple. They looked absolutely amazing! Greek-Filipino for the win!
As much as they rocked the “poker face”, doing some fun stuff at the end of the session is always a great way to wrap up the shoot. Since John used to DJ, he brought along a pair of old headphones and we went to town with some goofy ideas. It’s amazing what you can do with a blank wall and a small prop! Though these might not be our award-winning shots, it was just plain fun and the perfect ending to a great day in the city.
